For more than half a century readers have journeyed alongside Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, a story of adventure, and the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. This is a Folio Society, 1979 first edition copy. The book contains detailed maps on the endpapers printed in red and black ink, showing Thrór’s Map and Wilderland. The inset label shows an image of Great Eagles, along with 19 black-and-white pictures by Eric Fraser to illustrate each of the chapters.
Binding suggestion: Gold is guarded by the dragon Smaug, so it follows that this book should be bound in red leather with gilt edges. However, travel is also a theme of book, a light tan shade would also work well, gold lettering on the front and spine, and all maps will be preserved in the new binding. A classic book like this deserves a dedication, why not add gold embossed initials to the spine of this book to be treasured forever.
