Cranford is one of the better-known novels of the 19th-century English writer Elizabeth Gaskell. The text in this book was taken from the 1864 edition, the last to be revised by Mrs Gaskell before her death. Illustrations are by George Harrap & Co. It is Gaskell's affectionate portrait of people and customs that were already becoming anachronisms. The book is introduced by Susan Hill, Folio Society.
